*Alberton, Montana to Host 30th Railroad Day Celebration*
In honor of its storied railroad past, Alberton, Montana will celebrate its
30th Railroad Day Celebration on July 18, 2015; the all-town celebration is
open to the public with activities and performances geared to all ages.
The celebration is scheduled to begin at 9:00 am with a pancake breakfast
in the Alberton Community Center. The breakfast is hosted by and will
benefit the Alberton Senior Citizens. A parade kicks off the main
festivities at 11:00 am, followed up by a Wild West Show in front of
Sportsman’s Bar and Casino. A second show will take place at 4:00 pm.
Free children’s activities will be available in the afternoon including
weird science, a water balloon toss, and many others. The PEAK Foundation
will have cotton candy and water for sale, free face painting for the kids,
and a Community Art Show and Auction featuring pieces from many Mineral
County artists. PEAK events will begin at 10:00 am.
“Railroad Day is a way to celebrate and preserve our Railroad Heritage,”
says Richard Werst, the Alberton Community Foundation’s Chief Information
Officer. “Something for everyone, with a parade so nice you get to see it
twice.”
Other activities throughout the day include (but are not limited to) a
Spike Driving Contest with a $50 prize, a Golden Spike Hunt with a $100
prize, a community softball game, a photo booth, and a watermelon eating
contest. Various food and drink vendors will be available as well as art,
craft, and other vendors for your buying and viewing pleasure. Musical acts
will also be featured at various times with talents such as the Gorgeous
Franks, Old Time Fiddlers, and the Retro-Tones. The main acts of the
evening will kick off at 6pm with the New Big Sky Singers opening up for
Rob Quist and Great Northern.
Alberton Railroad Day memorabilia buttons will be available for sale for $1
as well as raffle tickets for the Clark Fork River Getaway- a basket of
over $700 worth of Mineral-county inspired prizes. Raffle tickets are
available for $1 a piece or 6 for $5 and are for sale at various Alberton
businesses.
