**Montana Premiere*
Amish young people turning 16 must decide whether to commit to the rules
of being Amish (no electricity, cars, divorce, sports, music, birth
control, jobs for women, education, travel, diversity) or set off alone
into a world they were raised to shun. For the few months or years while
they make their decision, they are set free to explore the outside
world. They call this period of freedom “rumspringa” in their
Pennsylvania Dutch language, meaning “running around”. Lucy Walker’s
first documentary follows Amish youngsters through their “rumpspringa”.
Nominated for an Independent Spirit Award and three Emmys.//
