Hi Spenser,

Thank you for reaching out on behalf of Senator Daines.

Cottonwood Environmental Law Center is hosting Green Drinks on Wednesday
evening. Green Drinks is a monthly event where conservationists talk about
issues.

A newspaper reporter just called me and said that Senator Daines is
planning a legislative "fix" for a lawsuit that Cottonwood won for Canada
lynx. I was hoping that Senator Daines could explain to Bozeman why the
District of Montana, the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, and the U.S.
Supreme Court were all wrong. *See* FN 1.

I was also hoping that Senator Daines could explain why he insists that the
federal government spend millions of taxpayer dollars every year to graze
domestic sheep in southwest Montana when MT FWP Commissioners and several
federal agencies have asked that the grazing stop. Ending the grazing would
open up over 16,000 acres of federal land to the public. I'm guessing that
Senator Daines is not against public access to federal lands, but Montanans
do not understand why the Senator is going against the requests of state
officials and federal agencies.

If you or Senator Daines cannot attend the community event, will you please
respond to the Bozeman and Missoula conservation communities on these two
issues via email?

Thank you,

Footnote 1: When Canada lynx were listed as threatened, the Forest Service
did not propose any timber sales for over a year that may affect the
species.

Footnote 2: Cottonwood is working with MT FWP to develop a timber project
that will allow bighorn sheep to be reintroduced onto Bighorn Mountain.
