*MUD Hosts Over 45 Organizations for their 12th Annual Earth Day
Celebration*

Missoula, MT— Missoula Urban Demonstration Project is hosting a free
community-wide Earth Day Celebration on April 22 from 12-4pm at the MUD
Project site on Wyoming Street, where the MUD Tool Library provides tools
to Missoulians to build their community.

MUD’s Earth Day Celebration will highlight our
community-wide efforts toward sustainability and feature education on
Missoula’s Zero Waste initiatives. Jen Bernosky, MUD board member and
Account Manager at Republic Services, says, “[The event] provides community
members access to valuable information about resource sharing, recycling,
reuse, and other ways to live more sustainable lives. It’s also a great
chance to chat with individuals and businesses that are leading local
efforts to reduce waste.” The festivities include an environmental
exposition with over 45 organizations and businesses sharing information
about their sustainable efforts in Missoula. The exposition includes
hands-on activities, demonstrations, and workshops for children and adults,
like crafting recycled robots, completing a passport for a free raffle
ticket, playing repurposed mini golf, and more. A Zero Waste Panel
introduced by Mayor John Engen features local professionals discussing the
city’s current resources to attain ZERO by FIFTY, a Missoula City
resolution for zero waste. Sustainability site tours of the MUD Project,
Home Resource, The Source, and Bayern Brewing will take place throughout
the afternoon. Climate Smart Missoula and Jordan Solar will be hosting a
mini-Solar Ease Workshop as a guide to acquiring solar panels and a
Sustainability Featurettes section will let Missoulians speed-date their
local sustainability organizations to find out how to access resources,
among numerous other fun and educational opportunities.

Food trucks from Covered Wagon Hot Dogs, Big Thai
Country, and Big Dipper Ice Cream will be present during the festival and
drinks for sale from Bayern Brewing, New Belgium Brewing, Wildwood Brewing,
Bitterroot Brewing, and Western Cider will be available. Finally, there
will be local musicians playing sets during the festival including the
Cello Mafia, an area youth cello ensemble led by Jessica Catron.

MUD is promoting Sustainability Month events across our
community for all of April to get people out and activated about
community-based sustainability efforts that will culminate in our on-site
festival. In conjunction with the National Earth Day theme of Ending
Plastic Pollution, MUD is partnering with a diverse group of organizations
to share its vision with the Missoula community that education,
demonstration, and celebration of urban sustainable living will create
equitable communities and healthy ecosystems. To see events happening in
April related to sustainability visit our Earth Day Webpage:

Proceeds from the Earth Day Celebration will directly
support the MUD Project, a non-profit that promotes urban sustainable
living. The organization provides the community with a tool library, a
truck share, a demonstration site, youth education programs, and workshops.
