Millions of Americans may be pushed away from the coast in the coming years, and the U.S. isn't prepared <https://link.mail.bloombergbusiness.com/click/15257762.18631/aHR0cHM6Ly93d3cuYmxvb21iZXJnLmNvbS9uZXdzL2FydGljbGVzLzIwMTgtMTEtMjMvY2xpbWF0ZS1tYXktZm9yY2UtbWlsbGlvbnMtdG8tbW92ZS1hbmQtdS1zLWlzbi10LXJlYWR5LXJlcG9ydD91dG1fbWVkaXVtPWVtYWlsJnV0bV9zb3VyY2U9bmV3c2xldHRlciZ1dG1fdGVybT0xODExMjgmdXRtX2NhbXBhaWduPWNsaW1hdGVjaGFuZ2Vk/58ffbaf7dd4c29967b8b4646Bdf4af85d> for the consequences of such a mass migration.

Sea level rise and shoreline changes are lead influences on floods from tropical cyclones

Writing in the current special issue of Nature dedicated to coastal regions, UMass Amherst geoscientist Woodruff, with co-authors Jennifer Irish of Virginia Tech University and Suzana Camargo of Columbia University, say, "Society must learn to live with a rapidly evolving shoreline that is increasingly prone to flooding from tropical cyclones."
