Rep Gianforte says that 87% of people on his recent town hall did not believe the President should be impeached. It remains easy for him to make these claims when he is woefully inaccessible to his constituents (at least in western MT). If you feel differently than the 87%, please contact Rep Gianforte at 202-225-3211 and let him know you’d like him to vote on impeachment.

Dear Ms. Newell,

Thank you for contacting me about the Presidential Impeachment Inquiry. I appreciate your thoughts on this issue. Your input is important to me.

I support the President and oppose the ongoing sham process House Democrats have engaged in to overturn the results of the 2016 Presidential election. On my recent statewide townhall that reaches 100,000 Montanans, 87% of respondents did not believe the President should be impeached. I stand with them and President Trump.

On October 31, 2019, I voted with every Republican and two Democrats against Nancy Pelosi and Adam Schiff’s effort to continue to impeach President Trump. The resolution passed and the process continues.

This process began on September 24, 2019, when Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi announced she was moving forward with an official impeachment inquiry into President Donald Trump’s dealings with the Ukrainian government. The next step in a normal impeachment process, is an investigation led by either the Judiciary Committee or a special Select Committee on Impeachment. Unfortunately, House Democrats are not allowing an open process. I believe the hearings must be conducted in the open and the accused should be able to defend themselves.

On December 3, 2019, the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence voted along party lines to refer the inquiry to House Judiciary Committee. If the Judiciary Committee finds grounds for impeachment, the House would vote on whether to impeach the President. If the measure passes, the President is formally impeached and would go to trial in the Senate. In order to convict and remove the President, two-thirds of the Senate would need to support impeachment.

Thank you again for getting in touch. Hearing from you and other Montanans allows me to better understand your perspective. As your representative in Congress, I will continue to rely on your views to serve as a strong voice for Montana. I invite you to visit my website at gianforte.house.gov to sign up for my newsletter, learn more about current legislation, and see what I am working on for Montana. If I can help you or your family, please contact me.

Sincerely,
