Subject: Event: Cultural Identity Workshop

Good afternoon!

Global and Cultural Affairs in Arts Missoula and the Jeannette Rankin Peace Center are hosting an exciting upcoming community event that we would love for you to share:

Know Thyself: Cultural Identity Workshop

Saturday, January 26th, 9am-noon

Payne Family Native American Center, UofM Campus

Seeing the Elephant Unconference in June last year, organized and facilitated by the Jeannette Rankin Peace Center, was a very successful event in Missoula! Community members, UM students and faculty members alike were participating in debates, inspired by lightning keynotes, contributed to break-out sessions and joined group and panel discussions, tackling the question "Does my world look different from yours?

Conversations continued, past the actual event, in person and via e-mail with participants at the time suggesting a follow-up event that would have "cultural identity" as its central topic for presentations, discussions and community participation. Cultural Identity, a person's self-conception and self-perception, is related to nationality, ethnicity, religion, social class, generation, locality or any kind of social group that has its own distinct culture. Everyone has a cultural identity. Knowing where you come from can give you a sense of belonging and a sense of self. For some people, culture is more about the families you create rather than your birth heritage. This could mean a local club, community group or sports team.

Global and Cultural Affairs in Arts Missoula is excited to partner with the Jeannette Rankin Peace Center to offer Know Thyself: A Cultural Identity Workshop on Saturday, January 26, from 9:00 to noon in the Payne Native American Center, on the UM campus, hosted by Dr. Udo Fluck, Director, Global and Cultural Affairs and Betsy Mulligan-Daque, Executive Director, Jeannette Rankin Peace Center.

The event is Free with coffee, tea and snacks provided.

Spend the morning with us on Saturday, January 26, from 9:00 to noon in the Payne Native American Center to explore and learn more about cultural identity.
