* Here's more on the 'Bring It Home' fundraiser:
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
1000 New Gardens, Soil Cycles and Free Cycles are joining
together on Nov. 2 to host Bring It Home, an end of season
fundraiser for the three Missoula nonprofits. This year’s
fundraiser and potluck will be held at Free Cycles from
6 p.m. to 10 p.m. with local bands Mr Mr, Fertile Crescent
and The Spills performing. Entrance is $8 for food and music.
Attendees are encouraged to come in costume.
1000 New Gardens is a student group at the University of
Montana focused on educating students and community members
on fresh and local foods as well as making it more accessible.
This year 1000 New Gardens is celebrating its 10th anniversary.
Soil Cycles has been providing bicycle powered compost
pickup and educational opportunities to the Missoula
community for three years.
For 25 years Free Cycles has been bringing sustainable
transportation to Missoula through its bike shop bike
classes and educational programs.
1000 New Gardens is excited to be partnering this
year with three like-minded, sustainable community non-profits.
“We’re happy to be a part of the program,” said Bob Giordano,
founder and executive director of Free Cycles.
The ticket proceeds and donations will go toward a variety
of sustainability projects worked on by the three nonprofits.
Caitlyn Lewis, Soil Cycle’s executive director said donations
would go towards funding compost and food waste education programs.
“Without donations we wouldn’t be able to create the curriculum
needed,” she said.
1000 New Gardens completed its fall dig day on Oct. 26
where members built gardens at local schools and for
community members. Gardens were also prepared to over
winter by weeding and planting garlic for community
members and the Poverello Center.
Donations would go towards buying materials for future
dig days, including the one scheduled in the spring.
1000 New Gardens also holds a series of workshops
throughout the school year including learning how to
ferment sauerkraut, cider pressing and a mushroom growing
workshop by William Gregg of Front Street Fungi.
Free Cycles is looking to use the funds to replace worn
out tools used in its free and open to the bicycle workshop.
“We love having people at Free Cycles to gather and
socialize. This event is great for those who are new to
town and want to learn what’s happening with sustainability
in Missoula,” Giordano said.
