This significant exhibit covers the history of Missoula’s original Jewish citizens and their contribution to Missoula’s growth and culture.
Leiser’s Footsteps captures stories of hope and wonder meticulously researched by Missoula-born Bert Chessin, chronicler of Montana Jewish history, with beautiful panels designed by graphic artist Paul Kingsford.
Just a few of the movers and shakers of Missoula Jewish history included in the exhibit:
* Herman Kohn, saddle maker, jeweler, and councilman who helped build Missoula’s downtown commercial district, and a friend of Salish elder Big Sam.
* Daniel E. Bandmann, world renown stage actor, horticulturalist, rancher and eccentric.
* Jacob Leiser, tailor store owner, entrepreneur, and the first Jew to settle in Missoula.
* Leslie Fiedler, literary critic, writer, intelligence officer, and college lecturer.
Bert and Paul hunted high and low to gather this exceptional collection of untold tales that includes rare photographs and artifacts related to Missoula's original Jewish settlers.
You won’t want to miss this beautifully presented exhibit!
Exhibit on display through May 10th, 2020
