Freeda the 20-foot IUD is coming to Missoula and Bozeman for reproductive
freedom events

MISSOULA - Americans for Contraception’s IUD Express Tour
<https://www.americansforcontraception.org/iud-tour> is coming to Missoula
Thursday, Aug. 8, and Bozeman Friday, Aug. 9, and Freeda Womb — a
20-foot-tall IUD — will be the star of the show.

The giant inflatable will be on display for photos and video from 11 a.m.
to 1 p.m. Aug. 8 on the Missoula County Courthouse lawn, and starting at 5
p.m. Aug. 9 on the front lawn of the Bozeman Public Library.

Local speakers will be on hand at both events to highlight the importance
of the right to contraception, which is under threat in states across the
U.S., and the importance of Montana’s abortion rights initiative, CI-128.

The Missoula stop is sponsored by Americans for Contraception and Planned
Parenthood Advocates of Montana. The Bozeman stop is hosted by these groups
along with ACLU of Montana, Forward Montana, Gallatin Democrats, Pro-Choice
Montana, She Health and Wellness and MSU Student Advocates 4 Reproductive
Rights.

Freeda is on a nationwide tour that already has included stops in
Washington, D.C.; Las Vegas; Miami; Tallahassee; St. Louis and Nashville.
The visits have attracted headlines and TV coverage at each stop, along
with a shoutout on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert
<https://youtu.be/bgNnfYEK9LY?feature=shared>.”

First, abortion. Then, IVF. Now, contraception.

When the Supreme Court overturned the right to abortion in 2022, Justice
Clarence Thomas wrote that the court should also "reconsider" the right to
basic contraception.

Weeks later, the U.S. House of Representatives voted on the Right to
Contraception Act. a bill that would have protected the right to
contraception in law. But 195 Republican lawmakers, including Montana Rep.
Matt Rosendale, voted against it.

On June 5, 2024, the Right to Contraception Act was brought to a vote in
the U.S. Senate. Republican senators, including Montana Sen. Steve Daines,
voted against it.

This is despite polling
<https://www.americansforcontraception.org/IMPACT-Analysis_Nationwide_Contraception_Memo&Poll_FEB2024.pdf>
that shows more than 80% of the public, including significant majorities of
Republicans, Democrats, and Independents, favor protecting contraception.

Additionally, Donald Trump and J.D. Vance share the same vision for
reproductive rights, one that threatens to roll back decades of progress
and undermine the health, economic security, and freedom of women across
the country. This vision is embodied in Project 2025, a policy roadmap for
a Trump-Vance Administration proposed by former Trump officials, the
Heritage Foundation, and other leading conservative organizations. Project
2025 seeks to restrict access to abortion and birth control further,
threatening the health, economic security, and freedom of women across the
country.

Meanwhile in Montana, the secretary of state and attorney general have
tried to twist the rules and rig the system to block CI-128 from the
ballot, even though more than 100,000 Montana voters signed the petition
for the citizen initiative securing abortion rights in Montana.

The Freeda event will elevate these issues and provide Montanans with
opportunities for action.
