[MCN] Simple action on plastics in MT needed before 3 p.m. Tuesday 1/21

Hi all,

Happy MLK Day!

Last week, I was one of 22 individuals who testified in support of a bill
to repeal HB407, the state's ban on plastic bans, during the current 2025
Montana legislative session. Others who gave live testimony included
citizens from Arlee, Helena, Billings, and points in between, lobbyists
from MEIC, Montana Audubon, and the Montana League of Cities and Towns, and
representatives from the City of Missoula, grassroots organizations, and
small businesses. The Mayor of Bozeman—where voters overwhelmingly approved
a plastics ordinance in November that the MT SupCo in December said
couldn't be implemented—also testified.

We are on the cusp of getting the votes needed to get HB 160 from the Local
Government committee to the House floor. The committee will vote tomorrow
(Tuesday 1/21) at 3 p.m.

If you would like to see Missoula, or any other Montana municipality, be
able to take local action to address unnecessary single-use plastics
through local regulations,* please send emails to the committee members
below before 3 p.m. tomorrow. *A sample email is also below, making it a
quick copy and paste job.

*And please pass this action alert along to all your MT peoples
particularly those in Kalispell, St. Regis, Clancy, Billings, Cascade,
Polson, or Stevensville.*
