American Rivers and Wild Montana host community outdoor fair

Missoula, MT - Join us for a night of activities, live music, and celebration of our trails, rivers, and forests! Wild Montana and American Rivers host the Trails, Rivers & Forests Expo to celebrate the phenomenal work nearly 40 non-profits, outdoor businesses, and land management agencies do to provide access to outdoor recreation in and around Missoula. The Expo happens 5 - 9pm on Thursday, June 5, at the Highlander Beer pavilion in Missoula, and attendance is free.

"Outdoor recreation is a way of life here in Missoula," said Carmen Murrill, a community organizer with Wild Montana. "We're here to celebrate the benefits our trails, rivers, and forests provide to residents and tourists."

This family-friendly outdoor community fair is a chance to learn about what's being done locally for our public lands and waters and ways to safely enjoy them this summer-whether you're a hiker, runner, biker, hunter, birdwatcher, or paddler. At the Expo, you can find out about upcoming nature events and trips, outdoor kids camps, conservation efforts, how to volunteer and other opportunities to get outside. In addition, these are some of the interactive activities adults and kids alike can participate in at the Expo:

  * Navigate the mini-orienteering-maze with Griz Orienteering
  * Compete in river safety skills games with Love Boat Paddle Company and American Packrafting Association
  * Take a short walking tour of restoration efforts along Grant Creek, which borders Highlander Beer, with Clark Fork Coalition (starts at 6:30pm)
  * Learn about wildlife tracking from Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks and Swan Valley Connections
  * Practice your target shooting with Venery
  * Test your knowledge of outdoor recreation trivia with the Lolo National Forest
  * Create nature art with Montana Outdoor Learning Adventures and Blackfoot Challenge or jump in the kids ball pit

"Public lands and waters unite us as a community," said Lisa Ronald, Northern Rockies Associate Conservation Director with American Rivers. "They are an anchoring force that brings us together, and they are the backdrop for Montana's outdoor recreation culture."

Tabling and activities led by participating non-profits, businesses, and agencies and live music provided by The Pack Strings begins at 5:30pm. Missoula Mayor Andrea Davis and American Rivers and Wild Montana organizers will give a brief welcome at about 7:15pm. Raffle prizes will be drawn at about 8pm, and you must be present to win. Food and drinks will be available for purchase throughout the Expo from Highlander Beer and the Wild Weenie food truck.
