When Driving Is Not an Option: Steering Away from Car Dependency
A discussion on accessible transportation and city planning with author
and advocate Anna Zivarts.
6:30 p.m.–8:00 p.m. Thurs., Feb 19
Free Cycles (732 S 1st W), Missoula, MT

One-third of people living in the United States do not have a driver
license—but our mobility system is designed almost exclusively for
drivers. This conversation will shine a light on the frustrating,
dangerous, and sometimes deadly reality for nondrivers and explain how
improving our cities with nondrivers in mind creates a better quality of
life for everyone.

Anna Zivarts is a visually impaired parent and author of When Driving Is
Not an Option: Steering Away from Car Dependency (Island Press, 2024).
Zivarts launched the Week Without Driving to address the needs of
nondrivers in planning accessible communities and now continues that
work with the Nondrivers Alliance. Zivarts earned undergraduate and
master's degrees from Stanford University, sits on the boards of the
League of American Bicyclists and the Pacific Northwest Transportation
Consortium, and serves as a member of TRB's Implications of
Transportation Choices and Access on Public Health committee.

This is a free event. For questions or to request accommodations such as
a speech-to-text service or interpreter, please reach out to
martina at sightline.org.
