He will also address the potential and challenges of the movement to build a just food system in the United States.<o:p></o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-size:14.0pt'><o:p> </o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-size:14.0pt'>In addition to his work with DBCFSN, which involves operating a seven-acre urban farm and spearheading the opening of a co-op grocery store in Detroit’s North End, Yakini serves on the board of Food First and was a recipient of the James Beard Foundation Leadership Award. His work has helped transform Detroit into a healthier, more vibrant city, and his efforts in urban agriculture and community development have improved Detroiters’ access to high quality, fresh produce.
