Join 350 Montana and other citizens at NorthWestern Energy
Headquarters in Butte on Monday, October 10, to tell the
company to head directly toward a fossil fuel free future.

NorthWestern Energy lobbies relentlessly to make home solar
all but impossible. It’s in business to sell power, after
all, not to buy it from enterprising homeowners. And that’s
the problem. Montana’s utility company is not in business to
serve Montana. That needs to change.

The company is currently planning to build thirteen new gas
generators to replace the coal plants at Colstrip.
NorthWestern Energy calls it a bridge toward renewables. We
see a bridge to nowhere.

New gas generators are a barrier to renewables, not a
bridge. Once the plants are built they will have to run for
long enough to recoup the initial investment plus profit.
Otherwise known as: into the ground, like at Colstrip.

Methane is a greenhouse gas 80 times stronger than carbon
dioxide, and natural gas production releases tons of it.
It’s no bridge. It’s a wrong turn, and we don’t have time
for detours. We are at a crossroads, and it’s critical to
Montana and the world that we make the right choice. We need
to focus now on post-fossil fuel power.

It won’t happen overnight. But we don’t have time to head in
any other direction So head to Butte on October 10. Free
transport will be provided from every major city in Montana.

Bicycle Option: There will be a number of us
bicycling to Butte and taking the bus back. Please let us
know if you are interested in biking there!
