I say it partly for selfish reasons, but there are better reasons than that. <div class=""><br class=""></div><div class="">I run a separate listserv on climate change, species, and ecological/economic systems for researchers, agency staff, some grad students, and staff of conservation groups operating from local to global scale. But Jim’s 20 year old Missoula Community News is the only way I can share (a fraction of ) that information to you, in Missoula and western Montana</div><div class=""><br class=""></div><div class="">More important, Missoula Community News meets a much wider need, and has been relied on by Home Resource, Ecology International, the University of Montana, and many an individual looking for a job or a place to stay. In serving this range of entities and interests, Jim has done broad-based service — and he’s doing it out of his own pocket. Nothing comes for free, and Jim shouldn’t have to bear the expenses for a service that so many have relied on for so long</div><div class="">Lance Olsen</div><div class=""><br class=""><div><blockquote type="cite" class=""><div class="">On Aug 16, 2017, at 4:38 PM, Jim Coefield <<a href="mailto:webmaster@wildrockies.org" class="">webmaster@wildrockies.org</a>> wrote:</div><br class="Apple-interchange-newline"><div class=""><meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html charset=windows-1252" class=""><meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html charset=windows-1252" class=""><meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html charset=windows-1252" class=""><meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html charset=windows-1252" class=""><div style="word-wrap: break-word; -webkit-nbsp-mode: space; -webkit-line-break: after-white-space;" class=""><div class="">Thanks to the couple of folks that responded to my last request! This is the last reminder I’ll send out till next year. I he had one person ask about the donation being tax deductible, and unfortunately it is not. Also, my snail mail address is on the bottom for those who prefer checks!</div><div class="">-jim</div><div class="">---------------------------------------</div><div class="">Howdy folks… another year, another beg (except I’m moving to a semi-annual request)! As most of you remember, last year I undertook the task of dismantling our in-house servers at the BSFI, and contracting with commercial services to host our email and list serves. And this means that I have to personally pay for these services, instead of just trading volunteer services for them. So I will be asking each of you to make a contribution to this effort to keep the <a href="http://wildrockies.org/" class="">wildrockies.org</a> domain going! It’s been over 20 years, and most of us appreciate the value and service that having our own domain (as opposed to just being another gmail or yahoo user) brings us. This year also brings the addition of the <a href="http://wildrockies.info" class="">wildrockies.info</a> domain which will become a repository of a variety of files of historical value! Jeff Juel has graciously scanned in all of the archives of the Wild Rockies Review, and I am working on them converting them to a form that is suitable for online distribution, so stay tuned!</div><div class=""><br class=""></div><div class="">A couple of years out, I can say that the transition from a private in house service to a public one, while not painless, has been a success! It wasn’t easy moving all of this — the websites for all of the domains we hosted, all of the list serves we maintained, and the dozens of email accounts that were still being used — to other commercial hosting services, and providing all the tech support to get all of you up and running, and keep you running. But not having to maintain hardware for me has been, to put it mildly, “liberating.” But I still need to administrate and support all of these services, and it takes time and money on my part to do so.</div><div class=""><br class=""></div><div class="">So I’m asking each one of you — particularly those of you that haven’t contributed in years — to go to <a href="http://www.wildrockies.org/" class="">http://www.wildrockies.org</a> and make a contribution to this effort. All funds go to paying our yearly hosting fee and domain registration, and anything over that goes into the WIldRockies InfoNet to help it provide list serves and other services to the variety of organizations I do volunteer work for (extensive).</div><div class=""><br class=""></div><div class="">To those of you that donated during the last request, Thank You!! I hope you’ll consider donating again, the bills never stop with several coming due soon. And to the couple of you that took it upon yourselves to just make a contribution on your own, thank you! And to those of you who have called or emailed to say hello, or receive some tech support, it’s always good to hear from you and get updates on what you are doing.</div><div class=""><br class=""></div>So, once again, you can go to our website at <a href="http://www.wildrockies.org/" class="">http://www.wildrockies.org</a> and make a contribution, or you can use the snail mail address below.<div class="">Thanks!</div><div class="">-jim</div><div class=""><div apple-content-edited="true" class="">
