<p class="MsoNormal">The 2018 Wilderness Issues Lecture Series, "The Rivers Will Run: Celebrating 50 Years of the Wild and Scenic Rivers Act" kicks off Tuesday evening, January 30th, at 7:00pm in Gallagher Business Building room 123 on the UM campus. This
year's lecture series celebrates the 50th anniversary of the National Wild and Scenic Rivers Act, bringing forth activists, authors, scientists, policy experts, and adventurous storytellers to examine the wilderness of waterways, the National Wild and Scenic
rivers of the United States and waters waiting for these protections.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Join Charles Ray as he traces the path of the Salmon River from its headwaters to its mouth, concentrating on the 125-mile section designated “Recreational” and
<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">“Wild." Learn about the geology, fauna, flora, natural history, present land and river usage, as well as some of the interesting characters who have lived there. The talk will also include management challenges and threats to the remarkable
values that led to the Wild and Scenic designation.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Charles Ray first saw the Salmon River when he moved to Idaho in 1976. He is a graduate of the University of Tennessee School of Forestry, and he earned his living as a timber faller, an industrial electrician, and working on salmon and
steelhead recovery. He fills his time now with reading, bird watching, camping, cutting firewood, skiing, and sampling salmon and steelhead populations on the Salmon River. He works periodically on fieldwork for a geologic mapping project in Hells Canyon
of the Snake River. He lives with his wife, Leslie, in McCall, Idaho, near the Salmon River.<o:p></o:p></p>
