Please join us on our first “Hike & Write with UCS Western MT.” We will be hiking up Waterworks to the Jeannette Rankin Peace Park (the giant peace sign on the hill), enjoying snacks and good conversation, then soaking in the views while we write letters to Congress in support of the Scientific Integrity Act. After writing, we will continue to the ridge line, or folks are welcome to head back to their cars. </span></div><br class=""><div style="line-height: 1.38; margin-top: 0pt; margin-bottom: 0pt;" class=""><span style="font-size: 11pt; font-family: Arial; font-variant-ligatures: normal; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-position: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;" class="">The Scientific Integrity Act is legislation that</span><span style="font-size: 11pt; font-family: Arial; background-color: rgb(255, 255, 255); font-variant-ligatures: normal; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-position: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;" class=""> would protect public scientific research and reports from the influence of political and special interests. The bill empowers federal scientists to openly share their research and prohibits </span><span style="font-size: 11pt; font-family: Arial; font-variant-ligatures: normal; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-position: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;" class="">any employee from censoring or manipulating scientific findings. It would preserve the independence of agencies that fund, conduct, or oversee scientific research or the analysis of research. </span></div><br class=""><div style="line-height: 1.38; margin-top: 0pt; margin-bottom: 0pt;" class=""><span style="font-size: 11pt; font-family: Arial; font-variant-ligatures: normal; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-position: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;" class="">We will be meeting at the <b class="">Waterworks Trailhead parking lot </b>at <b class="">10:00am</b>. To get to the trailhead, take Spruce St. east over the train tracks until it turns into Greenough Dr. Go under the overpass and the trailhead will be the first turn off on your left (Minicker Loop). There are no bathrooms or water available at the trailhead.
