Dear Friends,

It has been a little while since we last wrote after you heard from us
following the June Interagency Bison Management Plan meeting. Things have
been relatively quiet, until this past week.

Just last week, Yellowstone National Park released their Draft
Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for a *NEW Bison Management Plan*,
which is now open for public comment through September 25, 2023. Many of
you commented during the Scoping Phase of this new plan in 2022.
Yellowstone heard your comments, and has offered this Draft EIS taking
those into consideration. Of the three Alternatives offered, *Alternative
3* is the best option for the country's last wild buffalo, which *could put
an end to capture-for-slaughter*, and that would be a tremendous victory!
That said, Alternative 3 still does not go far enough, as it also places an
emphasis on "hunting" to keep this vulnerable population "in check." Roam
Free Nation has created a take action alert that offers you all the
information available, and provides suggested talking points to help you
with developing your comments. *Comments are being accepted through
September 25, 2023. *

*TAKE ACTION NOW!
<https://roamfreenation.org/take-action-comment-by-september-25th/>* And
please share this alert with others!

In other news from RFN, our cofounder, Jaedin Medicine Elk, had another
heartfelt and brilliant opinion editorial published. Tribal Nations Must
Honor, Not Destroy, Buffalo Nation
<https://nativenewsonline.net/opinion/opinion-tribal-nations-must-honor-not-destroy-buffalo-nation>
ran in Native News Online, as well as most papers in Montana.

Our other cofounder, Stephany Seay, was recently interviewed
<https://sputnikglobe.com/20230802/french-leave-niger-kenya-offers-police-to-haiti-buffalo-hunts-1112330082.html>
on the Washington, D.C.-based radio program, Political Misfits, to talk
about the highly controversial "hunt". The interview starts at
approximately 1:26:41.

In other media, a courageous piece hit the internet, Sacred Cows,
Slaughter, and Silence: The Tragedy on Yellowstone's Border
<https://dailymontanan.com/2023/08/02/sacred-cows-slaughter-and-silence-the-tragedy-on-yellowstones-northern-border/>.
This important piece gives critical thought to the "hunt" in Montana's
Gardiner Basin. It was written by published author and University of Utah
professor, Maximillian Werner.

Lastly, for those of you based in or near Montana, the documentary, Yellowstone
Voices: A Path Through for the American Bison
<https://vimeo.com/832970937/a8c3e3a237>, will be showing at The Emerson
Center for the Arts and Culture in Bozeman, Montana, on Wednesday, October
11, at 6:00 pm. If you are able to make it, please plan to attend! Both RFN
cofounders, Jaedin and Stephany, will be in attendance. You can help
spread the word about this important film by contacting your local
libraries so see if they can run it. It has been submitted to numerous
film festivals, which we hope will pick it up. The more people who see
this film, the better, so please do what you can to help circulate it.
Thank you!

That's it from us for now! Please do submit your comments on Yellowstone's
new bison management plan, check out the latest media, and stay tuned for
more!

We appreciate every single one of you and thank you so very much for your
support and encouragement! Please help us continue to do what we
<https://roamfreenation.org/support-us/> do by considering making a
donation in support of our work for wild buffalo and wild nature. The busy
field season will be here before we know it, buffalo will be in the
crosshairs, and we aim to be there, standing in their defense.
