"As compared with their conventional
counterparts, local food systems may conserve
natural resources but their large-scale capacity
has been generally untested. A newly developed
model estimates how many calories could be
produced by farms within a radius of every US
city, and shows that up to 90% of Americans could
be fed entirely with food grown or raised within
100 miles of their homes."
