Missoula, Montana. BIG SKY FILM INSTITUTE is hiring a Festival Producer for the 2017 Big Sky Documentary Film Festival. The Big Sky Documentary Film Festival is the largest annual festival of non-fiction film in the American West. The festival draws an audience of 20,000 and film entries from every corner of the globe, with 150 non-fiction films screened and well over 100 visiting artists attending. This position will commence in July 2016 and go through early March 2017. The Festival Producer is responsible for planning, managing and overseeing the successful production of the annual 10-day festival happening in February.
Management Duties: This person will manage the festival budget provided by the Executive Director and complete the contracting for all festival venues for screenings, special events, Doc Shop, parties, etc. The Festival Producer hires temporary staff, oversees all operational aspects of the festival, and is directly responsible for contracting and supervising temporary festival staff. Additionally, the Festival Producer manages the work schedule and duties of the Volunteer Coordinator, Transportation Manager, Education Coordinator, Box Office Manager, and Venue Managers. In general, the Festival Producer is responsible for managing all festival employees and volunteers and ensuring that all work by these individuals is completed in a timely manner.
Organizational Duties: The Festival Producer will implement the ticketing plan and structure for the festival. The producer oversees the production of the festival program, the local independent newspaper insert and other print materials promoting the festival. The producer will work closely with and oversee: the Operations Manager, the Technical Director; and the Special Events Coordinator, to ensure the full schedule of films, special events and parties; the DocShop Director to facilitate the production of the DocShop filmmaking conference sessions; and the Publicist to ensure the currency and consistency of message of all PR during the festival.
Promotional Duties: The Festival Producer will participate in the creation of material for the festival website, press releases, Facebook page, and other permanent social media sites as they pertain to the festival. The producer will also participate in connecting media partners and delegates to filmmakers and stories throughout the event.
Qualifications: BSFI is looking for someone with
extensive project management & events experience;
interest in film and community events;
successful experience writing press releases, making presentations, and negotiating with vendors;
experience in organizational website management, including content creation and currency and integration with other social media platforms;
strong written and oral communication skills;
experience overseeing the design and production of print and electronic materials and publications:
strong creative, strategic, analytical, organizational skills; and
ability to manage multiple projects at a time, and work in cross-functional team situations.
This is a salaried position, currently offered without benefits.
