An Alien Place: The Fort Missoula Detention Camp 1941-1944 Receives Emmy(r) Nomination

An Alien Place: The Fort Missoula Detention Camp 1941-1944, a documentary about the lives of over 2200 detained Italian and Japanese men held at Fort Missoula during the WWII interment era has been nominated for an Emmy(r) Award (Northwest Chapter of National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences).

Most Americans interested in the history of World War II are aware of the incarceration of 120,000 Japanese-American citizens in 10 concentration camps in the West.  Few Americans know the story of a small Montana fort where 1,000 Japanese men were held for loyalty hearings and interrogation into their immigration status. This is their story, and the story of the 1,200 Italian seamen who were interned at Fort Missoula.

Funded in part by grants from the Greater Montana Foundation, National Park Service and the Montana of Office and Tourism this documentary shines a light on the lives of the these men while they were interned at Fort Missoula during the fear laced years of World War II.

The category it has been nominated in is best Historic Cultural - Program/Special. The awards ceremony will be held in Seattle in June.
