Colstrip coal-fired power plant

~
Hello fellow Missoulians,

The Colstrip, MT coal-fired power plant is the largest climate polluter in
the American West. And right now you have a rare opportunity to help hasten
its shutdown...for good. Join the Sierra Club and Montana climate activists
for these two volunteer opportunities.

*Sierra Club trip to Spokane to participate in public hearings November 8,
2017 Leave Missoula 8:00 am Return by 7:00 pm Free Transportation Provided!*

*RSVP for Spokane trip by emailing david.merrill at sierraclub.org
<david.merrill at sierraclub.org> Sierra Club phone bank to drive turnout to
hearings November 1st and 2nd (or just one evening) 6:00 pm-8:00 pm Swift
Building (down the hill from the Missoulian) 315 S. 4th Street, East Free
Beer and Pizza!*

*RSVP for the phone bank by emailing david.merrill at sierraclub.org
<david.merrill at sierraclub.org> *Avista, an electric utility based in
Spokane, Washington, is a co-owner of Colstrip coal-electric plant in
Colstrip, MT. The Washington Utilities and Transportation Commission (UTC)
wants to hear from you about the Avista Integrated Resource Plan, which
identifies the type of power the utility will procure in the coming years.
The hearings will be held November 8, 1:00-3:00 pm, in Spokane.

Recently, the largest Colstrip co-owner, Puget Sound Energy, signaled its
intention to end its Colstrip operations no later than 2027. *But Avista is
holding onto a 2037 (or later!) date for quitting Colstrip.* Let's let the
UTC know that is unacceptable to Montanans.

*The devastating Montana fire season is all the motivation we need to shut
down Montana coal burning for good.*

*Let’s make it loud and clear *we want our Northwest electricity providers
to focus on energy efficiency and *100% renewable energy* from wind, water
and solar power.

*Travel with the Sierra Club on November 8 to Spokane and help drive
turnout for the hearings in the Nov. 1 and/or Nov. 2 phone bank.* RSVP
today by emailing me at david.merrill at sierraclub.org if you would like to
participate in either of these opportunities.
