GRETA THUNBERG: “For about a year, I have been constantly talking about our rapidly declining carbon budgets, over and over again. But since that is still being ignored, I will just keep repeating it.”

Over and over again, Greta has cited data, fact, numbers provided by science. However, the scientists she has relied on are having increasing doubt about that approach, saying publicly that it’s failed to convey the necessary urgency.

Concerned about that, they put together a session at the American Geophysical Union’s 2019 Fall Meeting: “Communicating with Appropriate Urgency: How to Connect with Audiences in a Time of Accelerating Change.”

“Kristina Dahl,a senior climate scientist with the Union of Concerned Scientists who is presenting a talk <https://agu.confex.com/agu/fm19/meetingapp.cgi/Paper/526106> at the session, said that like many of her colleagues, she too feels a sense of urgency about climate change. Dahl said that for decades, scientists have assumed that just providing the facts and data to people would be sufficient to spark action on climate change but that this type of communication ‘hasn’t worked.’”

"So if we are to stay below the 1.5 degrees of warming limits …, we need to change almost everything.”
