Deborah and Greg Schatz met Cliff Montagne, director of BioRegions International at the 2014 MWA Wildfest in Seeley Lake. During Wildfest, Deborah and Greg were giving a demonstration of packing with the Back Country Horsemen of Montana. Cliff told them of his BioRegions International project in the Darhad Valley of Mongolia and felt that Deborah and Greg’s horse skills may be of use to the local herders. In June of 2016 Deborah and Greg left on their grand volunteer adventure to Mongolia. Since then they returned again in 2018 to the Darhad Valley to renew acquaintances and continue to partner with the local herders of the Darhad Valley to help them diversify their income by providing a glimpse of their lifestyle to tourists, with the intention that all of the money earned stays in the valley.
