On 31 January 2019, more than 3400 scientists and academics signed an open letter <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Open_letter> in support of the school strikes in Belgium.[49] <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/School_strike_for_climate#cite_note-scientists4climate-be-49> The letter reads "On the basis of the facts supplied by climate science, the campaigners are right. That is why we, as scientists, support them."[50] <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/School_strike_for_climate#cite_note-vrtnws-2019-50> This was followed by an open letter in support of the school strikes in the Netherlands, signed by 340 scientists,[51] <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/School_strike_for_climate#cite_note-dutchnews-2019-51> and by 1200 researchers in Finland signing a letter, on 11 March 2019, supporting the strikes.[52] <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/School_strike_for_climate#cite_note-52>
In Germany, Austria, and Switzerland a group of more than 23000 scientists founded Scientists for Future (S4F) in support of the factual correctness of the claims formulated by the movement.[53] <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/School_strike_for_climate#cite_note-53>[54] <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/School_strike_for_climate#cite_note-54>[55] <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/School_strike_for_climate#cite_note-55>[56] <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/School_strike_for_climate#cite_note-56>
On 14 March 2019, the Club of Rome <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Club_of_Rome> issued an official statement in support of Thunberg and the strikes, urging governments across the world to respond to this call for action and cut global carbon emissions.[57] <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/School_strike_for_climate#cite_note-57>
In early April 2019, a letter titled "Concerns of young protesters are justified" was published in Science <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Science_(journal)>. The letter declared that the climate strikers' concerns are "justified and supported by the best available science" and was signed by over 3000 scientists worldwide.[58] <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/School_strike_for_climate#cite_note-58>

A study led by Susan Solomon found that the CO2 we add to the atmosphere every day remains there for centuries, “so that atmospheric temperatures do not drop significantly for at least 1,000 years<<https://www.pnas.org/content/pnas/106/6/1704.full.pdf <https://www.pnas.org/content/pnas/106/6/1704.full.pdf>>>.”
