*Missoula University and High School Students Strike for Climate*

*Because adults won’t act, youth must*



Missoula, MT – September 20th – 27th 2019 – Missoula students will strike
from schools as a part of the Global Climate Strike inspired by Swedish
climate activist, Greta Thunberg. The latest IPCC report states that
unless, “rapid, far-reaching and unprecedented changes in all aspects of
society,” take place, youth face a turbulent and dire future. By striking
from school, students will send a clear message about the threat of climate
change and refuse to legitimize an education system that prepares students
for a future that will not exist.



The strike will begin on Friday, September 20th with a youth-led climate
rally in Caras Park at 10:00 a.m. Continuing on Monday, September 23rd, the
strikers will gather at the University of Montana for a week of education
events led by internationally recognized scholars, Western Montana
ecologists, and climate activists. These sessions will include lessons in
climate science, politics, economics, and the climate movement.

*About Missoula Climate Strike:* The leaders of Missoula Climate Strike are
students from the University of Montana, and Hellgate, Sentinel and Big Sky
High Schools. We are planning a week-long climate strike from school that
focuses on learning about the root causes of climate change so that we may
create an informed action plan for survival.
