Join Montana Wilderness Association and the University of Montana's Backcountry Hunters & Anglers student chapter next Monday evening for a presentation about Montana's greatest four-legged mountaineer, “Montana's Mountain Goats: Life on the Rocks.”

Monday, Feb. 10
University of Montana UC Theater
32 Campus Drive, Missoula
7 - 8:30 p.m.
This is a free presentation

Bruce Smith, a wildlife biologist and photographer, spent two years living among mountain goats in Montana’s Selway-Bitterroot Wilderness Area. This experience was the start of a 45-year fascination with North America’s premier mountaineer. He has also collaborated on a statewide review of the species, synthesizing 55 years of population data from across Montana's herds.

In this presentation, he’ll share details of the mountain goat’s natural history, behavior, and population status. You'll learn about the starkly different fortunes of Montana's native and introduced goat populations, as well as how the Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forest's current draft plan for the Great Burn threatens the native mountain goat populations in this area.

Copies of Bruce's book, “Life on the Rocks: A Portrait of the American Mountain Goat,” which won the National Outdoor Book Award, will be available for purchase at the event.
