The Arts at Sussex
At Sussex School, the arts are an integral part of a student’s learning
experience. We encourage students to explore the creative process, practice
critical thinking, and employ courage in the visual and performing arts
through three main disciplines: visual arts, music, and drama.
In the visual arts, we build an environment where students can manifest
their ideas by creating original pieces of art using a variety of art
materials and art processes. Students learn about artists from different
cultures, engage in collaborative work, and build vocabulary in art making.
Students engage in many artistic activities using a variety of media
including ceramics, printmaking, painting, textiles, drawing, and more.
Students create art pieces that resonate in their own lives, with a
particular lens toward diversity, equity, and inclusion.
