[MCN] Youth climate trial kicks off next week!

Hello Missoulians,

The nation's first youth-led climate lawsuit, *Held v. State of Montana
<https://www.youthvgov.org/held-v-montana>*, is headed to trial next week,
June 12-23! This is a historic case in which sixteen young people from
across Montana are suing the State over their right to a clean and
healthful environment. The plaintiffs argue that the state of Montana, by
supporting a fossil fuel-driven energy system that worsens the climate
crisis, is violating their constitutional right to a “clean and healthful
environment”; to seek safety, health, and happiness; and to individual
dignity and equal protection of the law. Youth also claim that the state’s
promotion and support of a fossil fuel energy system is degrading and
depleting Montana’s constitutionally protected public trust resources,
including the atmosphere, rivers and lakes, and fish and wildlife. This is
the FIRST-EVER constitutional climate trial in the U.S.--led by Montana
youth!
