Hi Missoula Community list-serve, EmpowerMT Shows PRIDE through Creative Resistance

Missoula Pride's put on another amazing  LGBTQ+ Pride celebration for the Missoula and greater Western Montana region.  Like the Clark Fork River, Missoula's LBGTQ+ community is the center stream that runs through the heart of everything.  Pride is vital for youth, families, allies to come together in solidarity,  to create spaces where people from all walks of life, with all gender and sexual identities under the rainbow, can come together to feel seen, be heard, and be in community with one another. EmpowerMT participated in Missoula Pride and showed out with joyful creative resistance, as a continuation of our Diversity Day theme.
 EmpowerMT Celebrated  Juneteenth with the Montana Collective-Missoula

EmpowerMT’s most significant takeaway from this year’s Juneteenth community celebration is the urgent need for institutional courage. Hosted by The Montana Black Collective-Missoula, including EmpowerMT's Rajiem Seabrook and Sylvie Tower, the event honored June 19, 1865—the day the U.S. Army enforced the end of slavery in Texas.

Emceed by Murray Pierce, the celebration featured powerful speakers including Missoula County Commissioner Josh Slotnick, Mayor Andrea Davis, and Zion Moore of the University of Montana Branch Center. Each emphasized the importance of showing up, acknowledging our full American history, and committing to institutional courage, especially at a time when efforts to erase historical truth persist.

This May, with a bit of luck and perfect timing, EmpowerMT found a new place to call home, and it's right in the heart of downtown Missoula! We are now located at 320 East Main Street, in a big, beautiful craftsman-style house just across from the old library. The moment we stepped inside, our team knew it was special. We've lovingly named it The Sunshine House to symbolize the joy, positivity, and warmth we aspire to cultivate.

With its central location, easy bus access, and walkability, our new space opens the doors to even more youth and community members.

EmpowerMT had the opportunity to participate in the Missoula Healthy Youth Retreat, which is a collaboration of local organizations working to prevent substance abuse in our youth.
