Hi Missoula/Bitterroot/Arlee area families!
I'm the local coordinator for Greenheart Exchange looking for a host family for a girl from Kumamoto, Japan for the 2025-26 high school year. Hosting is from August – early/mid-June (essentially the school year). Their visa is attached to their school attendance.
This year, Asahi has been selected as the Appleseed scholar from Kumamoto, Japan. Asahi comes from a close and supportive family of 5 with two older sisters. She is a cheerful, helpful, and independent person. Her motto is "I want to try anything"! She says even if you fail sometimes, that is how you learn new things. She studies chemistry and physics in school and works hard to prepare for university. She loves listening to music, singing, and cooking. And would love to share traditional Japanese cooking for your family. Family is very important to her; and back home she loves talking, cooking, and shopping with her mom and sisters. She is afraid of pets, but is willing to try. She is excited to ski here and explore the outdoors of Montana, and learn about Native culture.
Greenheart students come with their own spending money and health insurance; host families are expected to provide 3 meals a day, a bed/room of their own (they can share a bedroom with a host sibling of same-sex), transportation to and from school, and most importantly an open and loving home to treat them as one of their own to share their lives for a home stay. Greenheart Exchange is open and inclusive in its host families.
Please contact me, Sarah Smith, if you are interested... or even curious to hear more information: (406)270-1811 or email smaigin at yahoo.com
You don't have to be perfect, just open to the experience of cultural exchange and willing to share your home and life experiences with another. These Kumamoto students are selected through a rigorous process and are excited to share their Japanese culture while making connections and memories with a family here in Montana.
