Habitat for Humanity and Home ReSource Deconstruct Future Build Site
Together, Project Sponsored by Southgate Mall

Habitat for Humanity of Missoula is working with a deconstruction team from
Home ReSource this week to deconstruct a storage building in central
Missoula. With the financial support of Southgate Mall, the teams began work
at the site on Monday. The space occupied by the old structure is being
prepared for three future Habitat for Humanity home builds with low-income
families.

The deconstruction will take the better part of three days and the planning
and coordination of this project has taken the past several months.

"This is a big deal for us as we work towards acquiring land and making all
the improvements a year ahead of actually building," states Noreen Humes,
Habitat for Humanity Executive Director. "As we use many hours of volunteer
resources on our current builds (7,700 total hours in 2016), we are also
focusing on this property and selecting our families for 2018 and 2019. We
look forward to having a clear lot as well as being able to use the proceeds
from the sale of the repurposed wood and materials for our new home builds.
We cannot thank Southgate Mall enough for the generous sponsorship of this
project."

Both organizations look forward to the next steps after deconstruction. Home
ReSource is coordinating the deconstruction process and organizing the
salvageable materials from the structure for resale at Habitat's ReStore in
East Missoula. Habitat for Humanity will continue to prepare this property
for home building in 2018 and 2019, amidst two builds currently in process.

Habitat for Humanity of Missoula works to eliminate poverty housing in
Missoula County and throughout the world as an affiliate of Habitat for
Humanity International. Each year, Habitat partners with local families in
need to construct simple, stable, and safe homes purchased by the families
through 500 hours of sweat equity and an interest-free mortgage. Since 1991,
51 homes have been completed around Missoula. Both homes in progress this
year will house larger families, and between the two, 7 children will have
the comfort of decent living space as a result. As of 2019, 7 new homes in
the neighborhood of these current builds/deconstruction will shelter
low-income families.

"I have witnessed the generosity by the owners of Southgate Mall over the
years, and they continue to support organizations with missions focused on
the family and children," states Tim Winger, Southgate Mall General Manager.
"Habitat for Humanity of Missoula not only aligns with that belief, they
also achieve impactful, life changing projects that truly make a difference;
I know the owners consider it a privilege to be part of such important work
with an extraordinary organization of people."
