Local Habitat for Humanity Affiliate

31 members of the Bike and Build organization will be bicycling into
Missoula Monday, July 29th and building on Tuesday, July 30th at two Habitat
for Humanity of Missoula projects on Burlington Avenue in the Franklin to
Fort Neighborhood as well as helping at our ReStore in East Missoula.

Bike & Build engages young adults in service-oriented cycling trips to raise
money and awareness for the affordable housing cause.

Habitat for Humanity of Missoula (HFHM) has teamed up with the Bike & Build
organization for the last decade to help complete Habitat homes. The group
of cyclists will volunteer at a total of 14 build sites across the country
during their Central U.S. trip which started in Yorktown, VA on May 29th and
will conclude in Portland, OR on August 12th, an approximately 4000-mile
journey. The Central U.S. route is one of four Bike & Build routes taking
place this summer across the United States.

Each participant is required to spend numerous hours volunteering on a local
build site and raise a minimum of $5,000 in order to make the trip. The
organization's requirements give trip participants knowledge on affordable
housing efforts before embarking on their cycling trips. In addition, the
Bike & Build organization provides grant funds to participating
organizations around the country, including HFHM. Bike & Build's
partnership with Habitat has been extremely valuable in continuing to
eliminate poverty housing in the Missoula community and with other Habitat
affiliates throughout Montana.

The HFHM Community partners include St. Paul Lutheran Church, who provides
all the group meals and St. Anthony Catholic Church, who provides the
lodging for the Bike & Build team. The cyclists will work at the build site
of two Habitat homes, 2219 & 2220 Burlington Avenue on Tuesday, July 30th as
well as the Habitat ReStore located at 3655 MT Hwy 200 East. The two groups
will converge at the Build Site on Burlington at lunch, which is being
donated by Noodles and Company and members of First United Methodist Church.
An evening banquet will follow Tuesday's build day at St. Paul Lutheran
Church. The evening includes a program in which the cyclists share their
trip experience with attendees in addition to answering questions about the
Bike & Build organization. The general public is invited to attend this
free program beginning at 6:45pm on Tuesday, July 30th at St. Paul Lutheran
Church, located at 202 Brooks Street in Missoula. The cyclists will then
depart in the morning of Wednesday, July 31st to continue on their journey
via Lolo Pass.
