*SB 68 ALERT!*
*SB 68 would allow aerial gunning of Montana’s predators by nonresidents!*
Montana does not need aerial killing sprees for target practice and
trophies. This bill is as dangerous, indiscriminate and inhumane as
recreational trapping. There is no way to monitor aerial gunning. Please
help defeat SB 68!
*TALKING POINTS *
1. *SB 68 would put public safety at risk across the state*. Aerial gunning
is notoriously inaccurate. Hunters, hikers, anglers, domestic animals,
livestock and wildlife risk being shot and killed on public and private
land. Wildlife Services admits that aerial gunning is non-selective.
2. SB 68 states that wolves and grizzlies are off limits, but* there is no
way to monitor aerial gunning.* This is *a giveaway to nonresident trophy
hunters, wolf haters and spree killers* who can shoot, maim and kill
Montana’s wildlife, including endangered species, with impunity. GPS makes
it easy to pick up the carcass later.
3. The purpose of SB 68 is ostensibly to protect livestock. However,
*helicopters
and* *low-flying* *airplanes cause stress and stampedes, and injure
livestock and wildlife.* *Aerial gunning can increase livestock fatalities*
*.*
4. *Predators clean up carcasses with CWD prions and take out elk and deer
with the disease*. CWD is a growing threat to hunting, ranching and humans.
Wholesale slaughter of predators, with no accountability, undermines
wildlife management and livestock protection.
5. *Aerial gunning is dangerous*. Federal records show that multiple
Montanans have crashed and died while aerial gunning.
6. *Predators account for a fraction of one percent of livestock
fatalities. *Aerial gunning causes suffering and slaughter. More predators
move in immediately. A-g accomplishes nothing but disruption and danger
for livestock, wildlife and people. å
*Let’s stop SB 68**. The House Fish, Wildlife and Parks Committee will hear
SB 68 on Thursday, March 14, 3 p.m. Please contact committee members or
testify in person! Contact your House representative too. Thank you!*
First, call 406-444-4800 and leave a message for the House FWP Committee to
vote down SB 68 because it is a dangerous and unnecessary bill.
Next, please write to Committee members (Dear Chairman Brown and Members of
the House Fish, Wildlife and Parks Committee) and to your representative:
