[MCN] Guinea, West Africa comes to UM and Missoula community

I am thrilled to be welcoming master dancer Alhassane Camara and master musician Mory Fofana to the UM School of Theatre & Dance and the Missoula community.  A generous donor has made it possible for these two to offer master dance classes and a performance October 1-4 on campus, as well as some dance, drum, and stand-up dundun dance classes for the community.  Alhassane is a generous and uplifting teacher and his classes will be accompanied by Mory and musicians of Unity Dance & Drum.  This is an extremely rare and wonderful opportunity (!) and we welcome all to join.  Please see the attached press release and poster.   (artist bios included in attachment)

Schedule for October 1-4, 2019, University of MT Dance Department and Missoula Community


*All University of Montana (UM) classes will be taught in PARTV005 (Open Space) *Free for UM students; $20 for community


Tuesday, October 1

UM dance class:  2:00-3:20pm [Beginner]

UM African dance class:  4:30-6:00pm [Intermediate]

Wednesday, October 2

UM dance class:  2:30-3:50pm [Beginner]

UM dance class:  4:00-5:20pm [Intermediate]

Thursday, October 3

UM African dance class:  4:30-6:00pm [choreography, Adv.]

(if you are interested in performing on Friday, please stay for a quick rehearsal after this class, 6:00-6:30pm)

Friday, October 4

UM Dance class:  1:00-2:20pm [Intermediate]


Presentation/Performance (PARTV005):  7:00pm

UM students free; $5 to $10 suggested donation


Community Classes

Tuesday, October 1:  Dance Class 7-8:30p @ Missoula Senior Center

[Intermediate] $20/person; $10/students

Wednesday, October 2:  Drum Class7:00-8:30pm @ Missoula Senior Center (705 S. Higgins) $25/person; $10/students/seniors (some extra drums will be available, FCFS)

Thursday, October 3:  Dundun Drum/Dance Class*7:00-8:30pm @ Performing Arts/TV Open Space (Room 005) UM Campus$20/person; UM students free

*play drums with sticks while dancing (=lots of fun!!) (some extra drums will be available, FCFS)


*Mory and Alhassane are available to teach private classes upon request.
